Built in the late 1500’s, this church is in my estimation the most magnificent example of Renaissance architecture in all of Mexico. When the Spanish governor Francisco Montejo built this church, he established the center of Merida on the site of five Mayan temples collectively named Ichcaansiho (five born in heaven).
